IAM RoadSmart NZ has two tiers of membership:
- Associate: the initial “entry” level which is available immediately on joining; and
- Full: open to drivers and riders, with a full New Zealand New Zealand Driver Licence in the appropriate class(es), who have passed either of the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Driving or Motorcycling Tests.
The cost of membership for a regular year is $60.00 which runs from 1st January to 31st December. At the time of joining a test fee of $50.00 is also payable.
The normal joining process is as follows:
- You complete the on line application form (No payment necessary at this stage)
- IAM NZ will arrange an initial assessment ride/drive with an observer who will explain more fully IAM NZ’s processes and goals. There is no cost or obligation involved.
- After the initial assessment you pay annual membership fee and test fee and you will then become an Associate Member.
- IAM NZ will assign a qualified observer to mentor you to the Advanced Test standard.
Once you pass the Advanced Test you will be awarded full membership status at no extra charge for the remainder of the financial year in which you join.
Part year subscription
Depending on when you join IAM, your first year might be a part year to align with the standard annual membership. Therefore if you join between 1 January to 30 June in a year, then you need to pay $110.00 in total, which comprises the $50.00 Test Fee and the annual subscription of $60.00 – this will take your membership through to the 31st of December that year.
If you join between 1 July to 30 November in a year, then you need to pay $80.00 in total, which comprises the $50.00 Test Fee and 50% of the annual subscription of $60.00 – this will take your membership through to the 31st of December that year.
If you join between 1 December to 31 December in a year, then you need to pay $110.00 in total, which comprises the $50.00 Test Fee and the annual subscription of $60.00 – this will take your membership through to the 31st of December the NEXT YEAR.
Joining another IAM RoadSmart category
Should you decide to join a second category (e.g. motorcycle in addition to car or vice versa) a test fee of $50 is payable before you start being observed in the second category. Your annual subscription remains the same, regardless of the number of categories you’ve joined.
To maintain your membership you will need to pay an annual membership fee of $60.00.
