On 26 April 2017 from 6pm – 6:30pm, a Special General meeting will be held at L11, HSBC House, 1 Queen Street, Auckland. Postal voting and proxy voting arrangements are available to fully paid up financial members if you do not want, or can not, attend in person.
Fully paid up financial members from local groups outside Auckland can attend through special video conference arrangements available in Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch. You must provide advance notice of your intended attendance at a location to the National Secretary so that access arrangements can be communicated to you.
With regard to this 2017 Special General meeting, the following documents will presented:
Motion 1: The National Council moves to replace the existing constitution with the rules found at this link Proposed IAM Rules March 2017. To help you appreciate what has changed, we attach also a summary of changes Proposed IAM Rules March 2017 – Summary List of Changes. The reason for proposing this motion is to enable the National Council to modernise and grow IAM NZ in a way that allows it to better deliver on its charitable aims.
Motion 2: The National Council moves to appoint Gordon Peel (an existing Council member) as National Treasurer, replacing Tessa Christmas (the current National Secretary and Treasurer). The two roles of National Secretary and National Treasurer were combined at the AGM in September 2016 to allow the current procedures performed by the two roles to be realigned for maximum efficiency and better service. At that AGM, the National Council explained that this was a temporary situation and eventually Gordon Peel would take over as National Treasurer to maintain resilience in our governance structure. We are now ready to effect the transfer the role of Treasurer from the combined Secretary & Treasurer role.
Motion 3: The National Council moves to change the Financial Year end from 30 June to 31 December. The reason for requesting the change in financial year end is to enable the National Council to continue to hold its Annual General Meeting and National Conference at the same time in the period January – March. It is anticipated that the weather will be finer at this time, so member attendance is likely to be higher.
