The Central North Island Group was established in late 2015 and grew out of a need for motorcycle riders in the region to avoid the lengthy travel times to and from Auckland for mentoring. The priority has been to mentor local riders to Advanced Test level, then continue their training to become Observers. This will provide a local support base and allow the group to grow rapidly.
The main focus at present is on increasing membership in the Waikato region although there is a small amount of representation in the Bay of Plenty and King Country. By the end of 2017, there will be at least 4 qualified motorcycle Observers in the group and a number of Trainee Observers who have already passed their Advanced Test and wish to continue upskilling.
Because the current priority is on mentoring to support increasing demand, social rides for members are a relatively low priority. Members are always very welcome to join in with the Auckland group for their social rides. CNI news and events are circulated to members through quarterly newsletters and the IAM Facebook national and regional pages.
